Woman of the Day: Malala Yousafzai (1997-Present)

“I tell my story not because it is unique, but because it is the story of many girls.”
-Malala

Malala is a fearless humans rights activist and proponent of female education. In October 2012, she was shot by a Taliban gunman at just 15 years old, because she was vocal about the right girls should have to receive an education just like boys in her home country Pakistan. Many counted her out but after moths of rehab and surgeries Malala lived to tell her heroic story and continue her fight for equality. In 2014, she received the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17, making her the youngest recipient to date. In 2020 Malala received her degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford. Today she continues her fight for girls’ education through her charity the Malala Fund.
